2019 Visual Communication Symposium: Visualize Your Research!

The Visualize Your Research! symposium encourages all students, postdocs, and faculty to experiment with new approaches to visualization in their scholarship.

The 2019 Visual Communication Symposium: Visualize Your Research! is designed to start a conversation about data visualization and figure design in the context of academic research. Hosted at the Moody Center for the Arts, this two-day symposium features presentations from 7 visualization specialists and 3 faculty speakers. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn from the experts in hands-on visualization workshops and explore spaces on campus like Rice Public Art, the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, and the Chevron Visualization Lab.

From chemistry to spatial humanities, the scholarly community at Rice is eager to learn how to visualize their research more effectively. We see our symposium as another step in developing an interdisciplinary and collaborative visualization community at Rice. The symposium will also offer participants several opportunities to explore Rice’s unique features in small groups to promote networking in a casual setting that emphasizes shared discovery. Finally, we will advance graduate and postdoctoral scholarship specifically by introducing students to new visualization software and approaches that will directly benefit their future research.
